The Role:

Joining our friendly and supportive Lexcel accredited in-house legal team, you will need to be a qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive with a current practising certificate for England & Wales, you will provide legal advice and will support the Planning & Environment Team within the Corporate Services Department. The work in our team being predominantly undertaken for colleagues in the Department of Economy, Transport and Environment (ETE) and Culture, Communities and Business Services Department (CCBS).

The work is varied, important, and fundamental to the County Council's corporate priorities, so you will need to be highly resilient and highly motivated. You need to share our passion in delivering the best for Hampshire, working within a strong team with a genuine sense of community.

You will need to have relevant experience of working on your own initiative but within a team environment. You must also have the ability to work under pressure, to work to strict time limits and to prioritise your substantive workload. Above all, you will carry out duties in a professional and accurate manner with a client focused approach. This role will include the provision of legal advice, advocacy and representation to the County Council's departments, committees, members and other external partners and client bodies, that will not only increase the efficiency of the team, but also that of the County Council as a whole and offers the unique level of support that comes with working within our well-respected team and Hampshire County Council generally.

You will mainly be responsible for planning agreement work such as s.106, s.278 and s.38 agreements, as well as dealing with public inquiries and offering assistance and mentoring to colleagues. To take responsibility for a large and varied casework some of which may be complex planning work within the area of service provided by the Planning and Environment Team within Hampshire Legal Services, in addition to such other work that might be allocated to the post holder from time to time.

You will need to be able to apply the law and undertake appropriate conversations with your colleagues both internally and with other public bodies as well as with members of the public.
